It's definitely not something that's for everybody. Those of us who know (and love?) BiaB can forget just how clunky the UI may feel to folks. I would strongly recommend anyone considering it check them out, first. I've seen a number of other quick-music softwares out there but none as flexible or useful - or as dorky looking heh - as BiaB.īiaB doesn't have a trial demo (as far as I can tell) but there are a number of video demos and such. Since you simply type in chord names (and it can take highly complex chords) and click the generate button (which, as noted, is pretty much instantaneous), BiaB is extremely useful for those who know their way around and want to experiment with more sophisticated substitutions and such. Stuff like ACID or Garageband can be useful - but that approach can't offer the same, turn-on-a-dime airballing ease and utility. (One of the bossa styles not working for you? Try another or jump to a cumbia or eurodisco or.

What is it that that program does that you want?Ĭan't you just use Garageband for simple songwriting things? And maybe upgrade later to Logic Express or Logic Studio?I can well understand the disdain that the Tonka-toy, 80s style interface - with its jumble of iconized buttons - engenders.īut Band in a Box can be a great tool for practicing, as a songwriting sketchpad, and for very quickly roughing out MIDI arrangements.īecause of its apparent roots in jazz education, it's well oriented to turning fake book type lead and chord charts into back tracks at the push of a button. And from the screenshots I've seen I'll never try it either.
